Drawn to Glass
“Glassmaking drew me in with its sheer physicality; it’s artwork shaped by movement, teamwork, and the mesmerizing transformations of molten material - from glowing, fluid honey to cool, rigid beauty. The contrast makes glass truly unique.” - Andi Kovel
ESQUE Defined
Andi Kovel is a Portland-based designer and master glassmaker behind ESQUE, where hand‑blown glass meets high design. Trained at UrbanGlass and a former gaffer for Jeff Koons, Robert Rauschenberg, and Maya Lin, she was named to Time’s Design 100. Kovel’s work blends experimental form and functional clarity across lighting, objects, and site‑specific installations for leading fashion, architecture, and hospitality partners. Innovative in process, expressive in silhouette, and made to be lived with. ESQUE is glass pushed forward.

Questions Answered
What is ESQUE's Philosopy?
Glassmaking drew me in with its physical demands and ancient traditions. The material itself is endlessly expressive, shaped by motion and teamwork -transforming from molten fluid to rigid form in moments. Technique is essential, but for us, meaning comes first. Each piece isn’t about perfect lines or color tricks, but about bold ideas and genuine creation.
Does ESQUE have a creative mission?
Our goal is to lead the way in glass design - pioneering functional, conceptual glassworks that blend craft, utility, and fine art. We break away from tradition and kitsch, forging new trends rooted in content and concept. Our pieces invite use and handling in modern spaces, sparking ideas beyond the material itself. For us, nothing is off limits as long as meaning guides our creativity; color and form are the result, not the starting point.
What makes ESQUE handblown glass unique?
Each piece is individually crafted by master artisans, reflecting distinct characteristics and a commitment to innovative design, which sets ESQUE apart from mass-produced glassware.
Can ESQUE create custom glass pieces?
ESQUE offers fully bespoke glass creations for individual collectors, designers, and architectural projects, ensuring every request is approached with expert guidance and creativity.
How do I take care of handblown glass?
Proper cleaning involves using mild soaps and soft cloths, avoiding harsh chemicals or sudden temperature changes, and regular gentle dusting to maintain clarity and integrity
Why choose handblown glass from ESQUE?
Handblown glass from ESQUE merges functionality and art, using sustainable practices and providing investment-worthy pieces that bring beauty and modern sophistication to any space.
